Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR)

The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous provides monthly financial support to 1,400 aged and needy non-Jews who rescued Jews during the Holocaust and preserves their legacy through a national education program.  They also offer a university level seminar for middle school and high school teachers every summer at Columbia University.   Hatikvah is one of 15 Holocaust Centers for Excellence that participates in this national program.

The seminar features lectures by the most prominent Holocaust scholars in the world and features Voices and Views, a comprehensive curriculum on the history of the Holocaust.  The JFR curriculum is unique inasmuch as it places emphasis on rescue and protection during the Holocaust.

Hatikvah has participated in this program since it began in 2000.  Nine master instructors from western Massachusetts have attended the Summer Institute at Columbia as representatives of Hatikvah.  The JFR program also includes a winter seminar and a European seminar for teachers who have participated in the Summer Institute at Columbia.

In order to attend the Institute, teachers must be nominated by a Holocaust Education Center.
