Biography: Rabbi Robert Sternberg
Rabbi Robert Sternberg, Executive Director of Hatikvah Holocaust Education
Center since 1999, received his BA in education from Roosevelt University
in Chicago, his Bachelor of Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Theological College, Skokie,
IL; his Rabbinic Ordination from Midrasha L’Rabbanut Machon Harry
Fishel in Jerusalem, Israel; and his MA in education from Concordia University
in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. From 1985 to 1998 he was director of
the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center and between 1977 and
1985 he was the director of the National Religious Affairs Department of
Canadian Jewish Congress in Montreal, Quebec. From 1974 to 1977
he was a teacher at the Hebrew Academy in Montreal.
Since 1978, Rabbi Sternberg has been actively involved in interfaith and intergroup relations. He currently serves on the Springfield Interfaith Clergy Council and the Forest Park Clergy Council.
Rabbi Sternberg has co-authored with Dr. David Oughton of Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, MO, Christian/Jewish Relations in Light of the Holocaust, the first curriculum for Catholic high schools.
Rabbi Sternberg has volunteered for A World of Difference, a prejudice reduction program created by the Anti-Defamation League. In 1996, he was honored in St. Louis by A World of Difference. Since 2003, Rabbi Sternberg has been a facilitator for Camp IF (InterFaith Youth), a special project of the Anti-Defamation League that brings together Jewish, Christian, and Muslim teens in dialogue to create understanding and tolerance.Each month our director will publish a new question & answer.
