Brundibár

Cast of BrundebarBrundibar is a parable of hope and justice based on a folk tale. It is a historically significant musical work that was performed 55 times in the concentration camp Theresienstadt.

Brundibar was made possible by a partnership between Hatikvah and the Commonwealth Opera of Western Massachusetts. The performances took place on March 16, 2008 in Amherst and March 30 and 31, 2008 at the Elms College in Chicopee. They were preceded by teacher’s workshops and school visits to Hatikvah’s exhibit.

The performances at Elms College featured a talk by Ela Weissberger, a survivor who played the role of the Cat in all 55 performances of Brundibar.
