Attorney Whitney Harris and Senator Christopher Dodd
Spoke at Hatikvah Commemorative Dinner
On Sunday evening, October 2, 2005, friends and supporters of Hatikvah gathered for the first anniversary of the opening of the permanent exhibit, “A Reason to Remember”. Whitney R. Harris who is the last surviving prosecutor from the Nuremberg Trials gave the keynote address. Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, whose father, Senator Thomas Dodd, was also a Nuremberg Prosecutor, made opening remarks and introduced Attorney Harris. This year is the 60th anniversary of the Trials.
Besides speaking at the Hatikvah dinner, Attorney Harris was also the keynote speaker at a commemoration in Nuremberg, Germany and at a national conference honoring the work of Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, Chief Counsel at the Trials. Attorney Harris has spent much time championing international human rights. He is an outspoken proponent of international tribunals that have been built upon the legacy of Nuremberg.
A senior Democratic leader in the U.S. Senate, Chris Dodd is a recognized expert on foreign policy. He was influenced by his father’s work and continues to speak out against intolerance, tyranny and violence. He played a crucial role in developing the Thomas Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut ten years ago. All of the people attending the dinner were moved by the powerful words of both speakers.
