Relations After the Holocaust 

Christian Jewish ClassThree prominent institutions in the Greater Springfield area joined together to offer this unique and timely course. 

It was taught by Rabbi Robert Sternberg, Executive Director of Hatikvah Holocaust Education Center; Professor Martin Pion, professor of theology and world religions at Elms College; and Paula Gallup, lay pastoral assistant at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Longmeadow, MA.

This course was offered in commemoration of Nostra Aetate, the Papal document that transformed relations between Roman Catholics and Jews.

Topics of discussion included:

  • Steps the Roman Catholic and other churches have taken to address anti-Semitism
  • Ways in which greater understanding of Jews and Judaism is introduced in Christian schools and churches
  • The impact of the Holocaust on Christian theology and how the Holocaust is being taught in Christian churches and schools
  • Ways in which Jews and Christians are working together to raise a new generation that affirms tolerance and mutual respect.
