Partnership with Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies in Keene, NH (Summer Institute at Keene State)

Hatikvah Holocaust Education Center has a partnership with the Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies at Keene State College in Keene, NH.  Programs are co-sponsored by both institutions and offered at both locations.

In 2006, Keene State offered their bi-annual Summer Institute for Teachers.

A week-long seminar for high school history teachers and language arts teachers from New Hampshire took place at Keene State College.  Participants attended lectures by Keene State faculty from the History, Language Arts, Sociology, Psychology, Women’s Studies, and Film departments.  The seminar lectures included both content and methodology.  Participants learned how to analyze and interpret documentary films, primary source materials, and works of literature, art, and music.  One lecture focused on genocide and the Genocide convention and another on the psychology of prejudice.  Guest educators from Israel made presentations about how the Holocaust is taught in their country.

Twenty-seven teachers attended the institute.  The institute will be offered in two years  as part of the partnership between the two Holocaust Education Centers. Teachers from Massachusetts will be invited to participate in the seminar.  Those who want college credit will  receive it through Keene State College.  Massachusetts teachers will receive Professional Development Points through Hatikvah Holocaust Education Center.
