Brundibar Workshop for Teachers  

In January and February of 2008 a four hour workshop was held for teachers to help them prepare their students for attending Brundibar. The workshop introduced them to the history of both Brundibar and Theresienstadt.

Participants viewed and discussed a Nazi propaganda film made in Theresienstadt in 1944 as well as a film featuring child survivors of Theresienstadt. The second film included interviews talking about the effect the opera had on the children.

Teachers also discussed two books written for children. The first book was "The Cat with the Yellow Star" by Ela Weissberger and the second was "Brundibar" by Maurice Sendak and Tony Kushner.

Teachers received curriculum materials for their classrooms.

Participants in the workshop received 10 Professional Development Points (PDP's) in Massachusetts or .05 Continuing Education Units in Connecticut.
