Curriculum Workshop for Teachers - May 17, 2009

For the past year Hatikvah board members, a retired high school history teacher and professors and graduate students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst have been working together to create a Holocaust curriculum for high schools to use in US History II, World History II and Language Arts as well as for middle schools to use in language arts.

Sixteen teachers from throughout the state have signed up to pilot the curriculum during the coming year (2009-2010). They met at Hatikvah for a day long workshop on May 17 to prepare for the field testing.

After they pilot the various parts of the curriculum they will meet again for feedback and editing. Students will also have the opportunity to give feedback after they study the curriculum.

By summer of 2010 the curriculum will be published and available to all teachers throughout Massachusetts.
